Fuck me that was bad.

End of review.

Someone I work beside worked on that movie. He was made redundant due to the writers strike and is now wiring houses on a building site in Stevenage.

That’s quite sad tbh

I know. Stevenage. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

He was making more in a single shift in the movie business than he does in a week working here. Which never fails to remind everyone.

That's a shame, but I am not surprised. I watched the first one the other week in preparation for going to see the 2nd and boy, I have changed my mind on that movie to a point where I am now not fussed about seeing 2 in the cinema. I think when I originally watched it as a teenager I thought it was good. In 2024. Not so much. Nothing happens in it until the last 15 minutes or so and even then I find that it just ended like they ran out of money and had to just end it.

I have seen two movies at the cinema this year: The Fall Guy and Inside Out 2. One is good and I enjoyed it. The one is dog poop and was awfully acted, I will let you work out which one is which. Still Sonic 3 comes out in December. The trailer to that got my attention. I just hope it doesn't let me down.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar

This is a movie short, written, co-produced, and directed by Wes Anderson, based on the 1977 short story by Roald Dahl. It won the 2024 Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film. It's got a fun plot, a stellar cast and is visually interesting and inventive. I guess you could describe it as quirky and playful. You can see it on Netflix.

Henry Sugar (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a wealthy and self-centered bachelor, with a love of gambling (at which he is happy to cheat). He reads an old medical report about an Indian guru (Ben Kingsley,) who had learnt to see without using his eyes, through the application of yogic meditation. By practicing the guru's techniques, for three years, Henry acquires the ability to see through playing cards and thus is able to win a large sum of money playing blackjack in a casino. But the money doesn't make him happy and his whole outlook on life changes for the better.

Also in the cast are Ralph Fiennes as Roald Dahl, Dev Patel and Richard Ayoade as doctors and Jarvis Cocker appears in several small roles (in fact, most of the cast play more than one role). The look of the film is a little like a stage play, in the way the props and scenery are used... or, perhaps it would be more accurate to say it works like a puppet theatre.

I didn't know what to expect from this but I absolutely loved it. 38 minutes of joy.

9/10

Joker: Folie A Deaux

Absolute load of fucking horse shit. It's about absolutely nothing and has zero payoff. Waste of a few hours. Total bollocks.

Time loop thriller. It was alright. Nothing spesh, nothing new.

6.5/10

It was a potential for us this week on a cinema trip....binned it off once I saw the IMDB

We saw 'Speak no evil'....very good thriller / sort of horror where a family visit another family they mey on holiday....never boring and good ending ...8/10.

James McAvoy definitely did a steroids cycle for the part (as so many actors do).....looks massive in this compared to previous roles...great actor

Speak No Evil is a remake of a Danish film with the same name from 2022. It's mostly in English (with the non-English parts in subtitles). It's a MUCH better film and the last 30 minutes are very different to the new version, much more brutal.

I've watched this twice in the last week. It really is that good, I said.

Gladiator

Feel really guilty and ashamed that I've never seen Gladiator, but for a good few years and certainly since COVID and cinemas showing old movies way more often, I've almost purposely avoided it until it came out again on the big screen to see it properly and last night I did and wow, superb film. Glad I've finally watched it and watched it in the proper manner.
