Has anyone seen the Bromley Boys, a comedy surrounding a true story about Bromley FC ?
I've seen mixed reviews, just wondered if it was worth downloading it.

22 July

Paul Greengrass', he of Bourne fame, take on the 22nd of July attacks on Norway.

There is no happy ending here, it's a horrible film, all the more so for the fact that it's true.

If you can get through this without a tear in your eye on multiple occasions, then you really need to have a word with yourself.

Watching it on the day that Trump blamed the media for the attacks on themselves really brought home how far we've, as a society, changed.

This worlds fucked.

Sorry to derail a perfectly good film thread but, yes. Fucked.

Stalin used to have experts to air brush people out of history. Experts. They took time and trouble. The current crop of psychos (Trump, Putin, the Chinese, the Saudis, Syria, etc etc etc) can't even be arsed to come up with convincing lies. They literally don't give a shit that you know they did horrible things. They'll just look down the camera lens with their dead, shark-like eyes and say "nah mate, I didn't do it".

ladybits. I hate them all.

It's a horrible film, but as you'd expect, incredibly well made. Everyone should watch it, but I'm now left feeling that I should really watch some mindless superhero nonsense as a palette cleanser.
He's tried to portray Breivik as some sort of sad loser, which ultimately he is, but you just know there's thousands of wankers who see him as a hero.
As I've said above, no one wins here, even the kid who survived being shot five times, once in the face, struggled to confront what happened.
The most annoying thing, and sadly true, being that Norway being the right-on society that it is gave him the trial he wanted. Rather than just taking him out the back and kicking the shit out of him on a daily basis.
But ultimately it's a very good, if harrowing, film that everyone should watch..

Just to carry on the whole 'the world's fucked' vibe...

Fahrenheit 11/9. The new Michael Moore documentary. A film that leaves you sat in your seat as the end credits roll, muttering 'fuuuuuck' under your breath.

Moore thinks America is at a metaphorical fork in the road. One fork leads to fascism. The other fork leads to a fundamental, grass-roots change in the political system. (No coincidence that it has been released shortly before the mid-terms). Trump is not the cause, but rather the symptom, of a broken system. And the Democrats are complicit because, by pandering to corporate influence, they caused widespread apathy that allowed the fucker to get elected in the first place.

Whether or not you agree with his analysis, Moore is a pretty spectacular documentary-maker. Highly recommend it.

Moore's a fat shit-stirrer.

I like him.

Incredible film - Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell are amazing in it.

Go see it.

What an astonishing piece of work. This is an amazing film. If I didn't know better, I'd say that it was made specifically for me. There's nothing wrong with it. It's everything I love about film. Sparkling dialogue, stellar cast, fantastic performances, amazing cinematography, a shit load of swearing, a great soundtrack, and Francis McDormand is still kinda' sexy.

Highly, highly recommended. A tale of redemption.

The scene where the tortoise crawls across the woman's lap while she sleeps! It's the little things.

"We don't use terms like that anymore. It's persons of colour torturing business"

A couple this weekend.

Darkest Hour

It was alright I suppose. No idea why everyone raved about Gary Oldman's performance, thought he was going through the motions.
Much to my shame, I had no idea how unpopular Churchill was amongst his own party. Didn't know about the behind the scenes nonsense that went on with Halifax trying to broker a peace deal in the face of Dunkirk. So if nothing else I've learned something.

The Outlaw King

Another retelling of the Scottish wars of independence. This time how The Bruce eventually won said independence.
Chris Pine stars, and does a passable Scottish accent. The battle scenes are particularly well done. There's no Mel Gibson running around in face paint, rather the true horror of churning mud, screams, and filth.
The only thing for me, being Scottish, I knew the ending as we were taught it at school. So no real sense of jeopardy.
I must say that the fella playing The Black Douglas was the star turn for me. Absolutely mental when fighting.

I thought Darkest Hour was pretty good, it did highlight just how isolated Churchill was in his own party, Oldmans performance was no Oscar winner for sure, but I did enjoy the film
