Just seen that legendary stand up comedian Bob Newhart has died.
His name might be lost on anyone under 60, but it’s well worth searching out some of his sketches such as “Tobacco” or “The Driving Instructor” and many more besides.
A master of dead pan delivery…..the guy was a genius.

Yup.
Clearly 'humour from a different age' but it still raises a smile.
Someone once said to me 'he's a bit like Hancock'. I can see why but I never really liked TH. Newhart is better.

Although it's us oldies that will primarily know him, younger people may have seen him as Professor Proton in The Big Bang Theory.

Really funny guy, the Tobacco sketch especially is hilarious.

Didn't particularly like him to begin with, but as he got older he became better and better and eventually became quite brilliant. Almost as good as George Burns.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.

How do you connect country music with Newhart. Or am I missing your point.

This is one of his most well know quotes. Well, apparently not that well known.
