Anyone else enjoying the remake of the Ipcress File on ITV?
Oh yes. Very good indeed.
Yep, enjoyed ep2 last night too - they're doing a good job so far.

It looks absolutely perfect. Well acted too. Hope they maintain the standard till the end.

Sky have just given me a trial subscription to Apple TV+, so.....
Severance - What a series this is! Directed by Ben Stiller it tells the tale of four data processing workers who have undergone a surgical procedure called Severance. which involves having a gadget implanted in the brain.
Once they are at their place of work they have no recollection of who they are or what life for them is like ouside of the workplace. Conversely, when outside of the workplace they have no recollection of what they do whilst at work.
Its a mind-bending, mesmerising series and is supebly scripted, acted and directed.
I'd give Severence a 10 out of 10. It really is that good. Shame most won't get to see it as it is an Apple TV original production.
Edit: I just noticed Filthier mentioned this series back in February, but don't let that put you off.

I got Apple TV based on this post. Thought it was ok but not great. I love the idea but it was very slow moving and all the 'revelations' in the final episode were a bit obvious for me and not really difficult to work out early on. I have now cancelled my Apple TV subscription within the free trial

Also finished Ozark. Best show of the year for me. The ending was a bit ambiguous but it left a clear message as to where things go after the last episode.

Don't think it's been mentioned on here yet - Billions.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4270492/ 8.4
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billions_(TV_series)

Worth a look if you've missed it - Damian Lewis is excellent as a hedge fund boss accumulating wealth & power in not entirely legal ways, while Paul Giamatti as a US Attorney tries to close him down/lock him up. Reminds me of somewhere I used to work...

Seasons 1-5 are great, but the plot lost its way somewhat at the start of season 6 for reasons that will become clear if you watch it, however it does find some alternative mojo by the latter episodes of season 6 if you stick with it, and I'm now looking forward to season 7.

Anyone else on here enjoyed it? :)

Whhhaaaaaaaa? I liked it! Best show I've seen this year and gone into my all time top 10 based on that first series. It was brilliant, easy 10/10. The finale episode was so tense. They're filming the second series at the moment.

In fact I'd say it's a tussle between Succession and Severance for my "all time" favourite show.

Being as I'm laid up at the moment with the old Covid, I've just finished it. I have to agree with my pod co-host. Was expecting something far better as the so-called 'fantastic revelation' in the final episode. It was okay, but not as good as The Guardian would have you believe it is.

Pistol

Danny Boyle directed six part miniseries based on Sex Pistols’ gutarist Steve Jones’ autobiography ‘Lonely Boy’.

The reviews for this were terrible. Almost universally panned, I actually quite liked it. There were massive problems I certainly can't deny that. Some of it was obvious beyond belief. When they sign to Virgin and meet Richard Branson for example, who introduces himself thus… "Branson. Richard Branson". No need for nonsense like that. It isn't The Wire, but it's not as bad as the reviews would have you believe.

As already stated, it's based on Jones' autobiography, and therefore it's a tad heavy on him. Yer' actual Jones is a very interesting character. A kleptomaniac, who was sexually abused by his stepfather, this would have you believe that all old Jonsey needed in life was a father figure. Enter Malcolm McLaren. Now, if there's one highlight in this then it's Thomas Brodie-Sangster as the clothes shop owner turned music business svengali. He's utterly spot on in his portrayal. I liked McLaren. Thought he was one of the funniest, sharpest men to ever grace god's green earth, and this did little to alter my perception.

The rest of the cast are a bit hit and miss. The guy playing John Lydon/Rotten was another highlight. He had the Rotten stare down to a tee. Masie Williams was a passable Jordan, but the rest were cast straight from the lovable cockney rogue casting department. I particularly didn't like Chrissy Hynde. Her supposed love affair with Jones was a massive distraction, and not required. But neither real life Jonsey or Hynde have ever denied it. So there you go.

I'm actually old enough to have been around when they were in their pomp. The Bollocks album was one of the first I ever bought, and the passage of time has done little to dampen just how great a piece of work it is. This comes across as a bit lightweight in all honesty, but as 'Carry On Up The Sex Pistols' is worth investing six hours of your time I suppose.

I'm watching The Wire for the third time.
