I watched this.
Very good.
Rodney is a brilliant character.
Brilliant indeed, with the amazingly talented Will Sharpe portraying him superbly - glad you enjoyed it - wish there was a sequel.

Agreed.

Just watched Ian Wright: Home truths.

A documentary about growing up with domestic abuse. A pretty tough watch at times.

Mare Of Easttown

I heard Kate Winslet being interviewed on The Today Program this week in the wake of her revelation that she didn't want to be digitally airbrushed in this. She came away with a brilliant description of HBO's latest, "Places don't exist on the margins if you live there".

Set in an unrelentingly grim, semi-fictionalised town somewhere in shitsville USA, where every single inhabitant voted for Trump, the aforementioned Titanic alumni stars as the eponymous Mare, a detective in the local police department of the equally eponymous Easttown. Which also happens to be her childhood home, and the only place she's ever lived.

It's obvious yet another show where a young woman gets murdered, which was a problem for me I'll admit, but it was slow, and took time to set up the characterisation that I was actually hooked from the off. The other brilliant thing, and something that I'm coming to like, being that each episode was released weekly. Rather than all at once. More shows should do that.

Anyway, back to the plot. No spoilers here, but it genuinely did throw up that rarest of things, an ending that you didn't see coming. The whole thing ending with at least an hour of the final episode still to play. Now this is brilliant. The last hour was what happened to both the town, and it's inhabitants after such a grim episode has rocked them. Incredibly smart thing that.

The cast was obviously outstanding. Winslet being almost unrecognisable. She's a good looking woman, not in this. The ever reliable Guy Pierce plays her love interest. And that's all he was. Not the murderer, or any slimley scumbag. Just her love interest. Bold move from him. Playing a supporting role like that. But the outstanding star was Jean Smart as Mare's mother. I actually laughed out loud at one point. She was hilarious. There are other faces that you'd recognise in supporting roles, that had me reaching for IMDB.

It's good this. Not as good as everyone else is saying. It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's worth a watch.

I'm with Gers. Mare of Eastdown was great. Also smashed through the BBC 3-parter 'Time' with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham, absolutely brilliant. I was gutted there are only 3 episodes. Save Me on Sky is cracking too.

I watched the first episode of Time and have decided to skip the rest. Really well acted by all but I just found it too distressing to watch. I must be going soft in my old age.
