Apparently the reason for the initial free transfer and no money until after the end of the season (can't play enough games to trigger the clause) is due to FFP as Everton would breach it if they paid upfront. It is also likely that some of the clauses are relatively easy to hit and will trigger in stages when Everton can afford to have them on the books.

Yes, I'd assumed this as well. Obviously their accountants aren't as good as Man City's. FFP doesn't count to them.

Still means that we don't get any of the moment until part way through next season unless we do a deal with Levy

Seemed to be a few people asking various "experts" about whether we still get the sell on % if the payments are staggered/performance-based as with this deal. Nobody seems to have an answer for it

Perhaps it might of been better, if Spurs sold him to a club that could actually afford him

Where'd you get that from?

Hope this reignites his career. He's only 25 and a great opportunity to kick start things. He has looked completely lost for the last 2 years.
Plus it helps us out... ;)

If Everton don't have to pay anything until he has played 20 games, what if he plays well for the remainder of this season but doesn't hit the 20 game mark and they flog him in the summer for £30mil?

Neither us nor Spurs would get anything. However, Levy is a very shrewd businessman, so obviously that wont be the case but I'd love to know how they structure stuff like that.

Apparently the media are meeting with Manning/Sweeting tomorrow. Hopefully Toby will ask if the club will still get the sell on % for him with the way their deal is structured.

If it didn't you why wouldn't we have sold Matt O'Riley for a free with £1.5 million of add ons etc, if it were possible everyone would do it.
