I think I sort of understand these at a team level but what about an individual level? If a player has an xG of, say, 10 for the season and has actually scored 15, that presumably means he is a good finisher but… … if he also has an xA of 10 and has actually got 15 assists does that mean, presumably, that he has good attackers playing with him and the 15 assists is actually overstating how good he has been at assisting?

An interesting question and I wish I had the answer, except sign the player.  I guess you need to compare it with the team's and perhaps the assists were in areas not expected.
