If you're anything like me, you're a bit of an emotional mess after this afternoon. So let's have a little reminisce about our special skipper. What's your favourite Lewie memory? |

So many to pick from, but I think for me it always seemed fitting that he scored twice to lead us into the championship back in 2015. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago now |

Then there was that time at afc when one of their 'hardmen' jumped over the barrier to confront him on the pitch in the warmup - and was stared down with 'The Lewington Look'.* *If you know the words to 53rd and 3rd ![]() He clearly gave a 'diluted' version of it to the leftside lino in the first half today when he thought we should have got the throw. |

For Valentine's Day 2015 I promised my then girlfriend (now wife) to a night away at a hotel, food and drinks all included at my expense etc. She said I could choose where and imagine her face when we're driving through Bletchley towards the stadium when the penny finally drops for her. We were away that day which is why I could afford a pitch side view from our tiny hotel room for the night. We had lost away to Gills that day and I was in a foul mood so I suggested we just got pissed at a small bar at the hotel. There were only about half a dozen or so of us in that small hotel bar when suddenly Lewie, Potter and Kay walk in, tracksuits on, and sit on the table next to us. My missus doesn't clock them but I have completely zoned out of our conversation and am eavesdropping on their conversation. There was a lot of swearing and complaining about some members of our squad that season essentially saying they do not give a shit and these players will cost us promotion. I sat patiently nursing my glass of wine until Lewie got up and went to the bar to get more drinks for the three of them. I picked that moment to suddenly go up and get another bottle in the hope to strike up a conversation with him at the bar. We clocked eyes and gave a small nod to each other. Then I said (paraphrasing): Me: "shame about the result today" DL: "yeah" Me: "just one of those shit deserved results or should we have come away with something?" DL: "we're good enough, just too many don't care" Me: "don't sweat it, plenty of points left to play for. We can still do it" DL: *grunts and walks away* We then went on an unbelievable run of results that resulted in us winning promotion on the final day of the season, and I still tell people that my pep talk telling Lewie that there we could still do it was the reason we went up that season. Anyway, I love the bloke more than words can express. Every club hates him, mostly because they wish they had their own Dean Lewington, and they hate that a tinpot franchise has that history. They hate that he's ours and it's a record that will never be beaten. He's our own and our best. No one will ever better him. |

A random piss-up in the pub in Broughton in the Robinson years (I'm fairly sure Runyak was involved) where suddenly Lewie was there. I think that was his local at the time. Was having a good chat with some blokes who said about buying a round, and suddenly Lewie says "no Dan". Turns out they were guys on the ponce because they knew who he was and he didn't want to get involved in rounds with blokes taking the piss, which is fair enough. I think that's why we relate to Lewie: he's a professional footballer (and a very good one), but he's also just A Normal Bloke. |

Two stick in my mind. The first is an AFC game, where he 1st played left centre back. By all accounts he didn't want to play there, but he had their striker i.n his pocket and I doubt he missed a tackle or header. The second is when he became interim manager, I believe for the 2nd time, he picked Hirwm Boateng, who had been out of favour and who played the best game for the Dons. |
