I'll be honest I know nothing of his style, I've seen his sides play Dons on a couple of occasions, that is all. I remember his side absolutely battering us at stadium:mk in 2021. I don't go out of my way to watch Rotherham or Derby, and I am a little surprised so many people seem to do so. But let's be honest, we've had no style of football for years now. Anything with a clear direction and a buy in is enough for me.

He is a serial winner, 4 promotions in about 9 seasons as a manager is outrageous. He's also shown a loyalty to the club he played for, I like that. He failed at Derby the first season but carried on and got the job done in his next. I'm guessing nobody can question his pedigree.

This appointment may be a disaster, we may see more of the same shit, but this is a hell of an appointment and we are probably the only club in this division who could have pulled it off. I doubt many clubs in the division above could have tempted him either.

The next few weeks may continue to be shit, 3 managers have failed to get this lot properly going, but here is to hoping we see some early signs of what is to come and can give Lewie the send off on the pitch he deserves.

It is nice to see Barker back in the building, and with his former assistant Hamshaw returning to Rotherham as manager, I wonder if this is a pathway to introduce Lewington into the coaching team

Good luck Paul and welcome

Thats ChatGPTs take on him

Paul Warne is a passionate and hardworking manager known for building tight-knit squads and creating a strong team ethos. His managerial style is shaped by honesty, high fitness standards, and a no-nonsense attitude, often reflecting his own playing days as a gritty, hard-working midfielder.

Management Style
Motivational leader: Warne is known for his emotional intelligence and people-first approach. He’s deeply invested in his players’ well-being and development, often compared to a modern "man-manager."

Fitness-focused: Conditioning is key under Warne – he demands high energy and relentless work rate from his squads.

Team unity: He's big on team culture, camaraderie, and accountability. Players often speak about how close-knit the environment is under his leadership.

Pragmatic yet passionate: While he has principles, he isn’t wedded to a single philosophy – he adapts to the needs of the squad and the level they’re playing at.

Tactical Preferences & Formations
Primary formation:

3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 – especially during his time at Derby County and latter stages at Rotherham.

The wing-backs are key – offering width, while central midfielders provide legs and pressing.

Secondary formations:

4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 when needed, particularly earlier in his managerial career.

Tactical traits:

Direct play when needed, but balanced with periods of pressing and high intensity.

Relies heavily on hard-running forwards, disciplined midfielders, and overlapping wing-backs.

His sides are usually resilient defensively, especially when fighting relegation or playing against stronger opposition.

Notable Managerial Moments
Rotherham United (2016–2022)
Promotions:

Won three promotions from League One to the Championship (2017–18, 2019–20, 2021–22).

Known for bouncing back quickly after relegations, showing resilience and leadership.

Papa John’s Trophy winner (2021–22): Beat Sutton United at Wembley in extra time.

Cultivated a strong identity at Rotherham despite their yo-yo status – players played for him and fans respected his loyalty.

Derby County (2022–present)
Appointed with Derby in League One after their relegation from the Championship.

Introduced his usual high-energy, tight-knit team approach.

Initially struggled to maintain consistency but pushed for promotion in the 2023–24 season.

Brought in experienced pros and strong characters – again prioritising attitude and togetherness.

Final Word
Paul Warne might not be the most tactically avant-garde manager, but his strengths lie in building culture, motivating players, and navigating the challenges of the lower leagues. His track record in League One, in particular, is among the best in recent years.

Would you like a breakdown of how Derby have performed under him this season?

There will be a thread in a minute from a Derby fan who you can all ask questions about PW (the new one!)

Time. Patience. backing.

Get the rotten eggs out or on board and we all need to stick together longer than 6 months.

Back end of the season will be tough as will the first 3 months of next season.

The guy will bring sucess past that period though. Got to stick with him. Any player thatsnot on board can go imo. Get people in desperate for success, not some purist holier than though mindset.

You really have to ask, if we cannot get success with this serial winner its time to look inward.

An interesting line on the OS, which may tie in with Beardhidesboy's comments on the previous thread -
'Warne joins the Dons on a long-term deal that will give him the security and support to develop an impactful culture shift at Stadium MK.'

Yesbut i dont want to single players out in case they are ready to turn a corner. 3 of them at least have the potential to be big players for us going forward. Time will tell. If they leave in the summer i will say who and what ive heard.

Time will tell. But I could not but help notice the language Al Ghanim has used sounds very similar to what he said of Lindsay.

I'd argue that the language every chairman/owner says about every hire is pretty similar to what they've previously said
