My worry was that he would sign for another club to play for one more year, and selfishly that would upset me. From how 3CR have spoken this weekend it sounds like he's retiring from playing all together, and his post match interview suggests as much. He said that in an ideal world he would love to stay at the club. In Warne's pre match presser he said that Lewie will be such a miss to the dressing room and both him and Barker know how incredible he is both as a footballing man and as a person. Am I being stupid, but reading between the lines it seems that all integral parties involved think it's best that he stays with the club? I think he'd be a phenomenal coach with the first team under Warne and Barker.
If I were Warne - wanting to start things afresh over the summer and moving forward, and moving away from the MK Way and doing things in his way instead - then I'd probably secretly rather Lewie left the club for elsewhere rather than stayed on to be a huge presence and popular figure in the background.
There's positives to having someone there in the coaching set up with a link to the club - such as Barker - but I think there's also big potential negatives to having a huge club legend, that people would love to see manage the club one day, as one of them.
Managers that dare to fall out with Lewington don't last long - Warne doesn't need that kind of potential 'rival' of an authority figure as he tries to get everyone on board to adopt his new way of doing things.
So as much as I'd like, in theory, Lewington to stay on and still be a part of the club in a new coaching role - I think it would be better for Warne if Lewingron starts his coaching career elsewhere and Warne is free to push forward with his way of doing things here.
