Whilst I am a person who delights in 'off the wall antics', I think it's time Leko left "by mutual consent"; he's been 'off sick for (is it?) 13 months.
Why? He's in a contract he's entitled to earn.. you can't just release someone because they're ill, effectively.
Imagine you were off work by an uncontrollable situation like injury or illness and your work sacked you? It's not a sacking but a medical termination and companies are able to do this, essentially if you aren't able to fulfill your side of the employment contract due to ongoing medical issues the company can terminate your contract, otherwise people with open ended contracts (ie most employees but not footballers) would be able to remain being paid indefinitely whilst not working.
Normal employees can, yes. But football is well established as a different beast - players, for example, aren't entitled to their statutory annual leave etc in return for getting paid handsomely ti play a game most of us love.
If a player was sacked or released because of injury or "capability" in HR speak, the PFA would create a shit storm.
