He’s going to be working 4 days a week, so the salary isn’t as bad as it could have been.

Really a few comments against and most comments in favour. It seems a person can't disagree when it comes to Lewie and my comments I thought were quite mild. So much, that I will double down, say he is too slow, is the reason we play three at the back, has been targetted by the opposition in some games and looking at the comments, confirms that this has been done for fans reaction as much as football performance.

I really don’t think the club or Lewie did a new deal just to “keep fans happy”. Lewie is an unsentimental guy who would have retired had he thought it was better for everyone.

He will probably play a few lower profile games this season while learning more about coaching. For all of his physical shortcomings he is a master of positioning and his game reading is up there with anyone in the EFL. I hope he does become a coach as I think he will be pretty good at that and it is true that our other defenders look more assured when he’s around.

I completely respect your opinion but disagree on the back 3 thing. We started to play a back 3 because Russ wanted to and have recruited as such since. That's why subsequent managers played that system too. MW also favoured this position and has stuck to it.

Is Lewington the reason why Williamson played 3 at the back with Gateshead? Is he the reason Alexander plays 3 at back with Bradford? Martin with Southampton? Manning with Bristol City?

These managers prefer 3 at back. Nothing to do with Lewington.

We're lucky to have Lewie, even at the age of 40, the experience and knowledge of both the game and our club that he brings is massive. He's our club legend and clearly feels he still has a part to play. We should be celebrating him and not moaning that we're having to splash out a bit on his wages.

At some point, the fanbase has to wean itself off the notion that Lewington and Robbo are the answers.

I understand the value of Lewington around the club and as a coach but his value as a player has got to start being questionable at some point. He was in pretty poor form from around January onwards, he is overweight ( not massively but overweight nonetheless), he has come back from one of his biggest career injuries, He had played very few minutes in the last 3 months and exactly none in the playoffs.

There is a lot of conjecture about what Lewington wants but is it really his decision to make? He has made noises recently in the press etc. about playing for two or three more seasons and be honest, is he really still the best option for us in the position we are in?

I think we owe him a debt of gratitude but Dons are a pro football club and sometimes hard decisions have to be made. To me it feels like they bottled this one a bit.

It depends what else he is doing alongside being a registered player. If he's just slumming it on the training pitch each week I'd agree with you, but if he's coaching or doing other roles alongside this then I think he's worth the money. He won't be on a lot of money at 40 years old.

Don't care about him being around. I just really don't want him near the first team unless we are desperate. We saw in the Mansfield game how gassed he was and I know pace has never been his strong point and if it was a flat 4 I wouldn't be concerned but when you play three at the back you either have to have wing backs that will track back or a DMF who can help. I don't think we have either. But I echo the sentiments that lets win the bloody league for him and give him a bloody good send off

Ratings for that game:

Lewington: 7.0
O'Hora: 5.6
Tucker: 5.4

Tackles won:
Lewington: 2/2 100%
Tucker: 1/1 100%
O'Hora: 0/1 0%

Ground duels won:
O'Hora: 1/1 100%
Lewington: 3/4 75%
Tucker: 2/6 33%

Aerial duals won:
Lewington: 5/5 100%
Tucker: 3/3 100%

Oh and then there is Harvie, with no tackles won, 57% ground duels won and 80% aerial. Lofthouse with no tackles won, 50% ground duels won and 0% aerial.

Lewington out performed the other 4 defenders in almost every area.
