George Williams released by Mansfield today.

I know it's the folly of all football fans to always want ex-players back - but I genuinely wouldn't be sad to see him back wearing the roundabout badge here! There were a few players binned off by Martin that summer as they weren't deemed pure enough for his philosophy - Williams, Nicholls, Poole, Cargill, BTA (?) - that would be welcome back.

Hiram Boateng is also in that released list.

Along with Christy Pym who will always get linked here for whatever reason.

I'd only have Williams back if Warne is planning to play with Full backs as opposed to wing backs.

I could absolutely see Williams being a Warne type player, and definitely wouldn't be against it..... and I would be very surprised if he hasn't put the feelers out around a return here seeing as he still lives in MK

-----------------------McGillivary------------------
Williams - Offord/Sanders - Maguire - Tomlinson
-----------------Evans------Gilbey-----------------
-----------------------Crowley----------------------
New RW-------------New ST--------------New LW

I wonder if it would look something like this if we did change to 4 at the back (and did sign Williams). I'm actually not too sure on Tomlinson though and due to playing with wingers, I'd actually consider playing Maguire at LB and then Offord and Sanders as CB's.

Transfer window isn't even open yet, but can't help imagining what system Warne will build over the next couple of months.

He was on the verge of joining us after gilbey in 23/24, but Graham Alexander in the eleventh hour put a block on it and said no, GW was very vocal about how upset he was about not being allowed back if you ever spoke to him

Williams wouldn't join in a heartbeat - I don't want him back purely for sentiment, he's an experienced leader in a position we need.

I wouldn’t be too annoyed by pushing Nemane up into that RW role myself…
