I'm torn about whether we offer him a new deal and I suspect Warne is too. Warne wasn't overly impressed with Leko after the Crewe game based on comments that he made and I don't think he managed to stand out on Saturday like Warne was hoping.

I like Leko's offensiveness and desire to always attack but I am not sure a contract offer is guaranteed. I'd like to see him offered one, but I do think we need to temper our excitement/expectations from him. Not just because of the major injury, but because since his time here he's blown hot and cold consistently.

The actual comments Warne made after Crewe:

“I thought Leko was ledge when he came on,” said the head coach. “He’s right up my street. Anyone who is brave enough to take the ball in positions, to run at people and wants to play is.”

Erm nope. That was Newport.

Nice try though.

OK. Fair enough. Please tell me what’s negative about this though?

I never said he was negative and would never expect him or any manager to be towards a player in an interview, however the below to me seemed a subtle way of saying he didn't play to his best -

"Maybe at home, on a better pitch, he'll be able to shine"

Therefore, to my point, I did not think he shone at home on Saturday.

I think Warne coming in comes with a different outlook. He has a proper summer and from what the interviews sound like, a decent say in things going forward. This isn't a panic hire or a band aid.

MacGillivray has looked more than solid in the past few weeks. Leko has been up and down, but Warne loves wingers and he has something to him but played in under 5 very different systems in less than 3 years

I hope we have a real reset but also an opportunity for those on the fringe to earn a contract.
