My unpopular opinions...

-We shouldn't be called 'Dons', it's awful and doesn't represent who we are anymore (even if it was appropriate at the time of the move)
-We do have a more toxic and abusive than average fanbase on social media that is super-impatient and quick to criticise anyone and everyone
-Much of the usual criticisms about the club have some truth (shite home atmosphere, poor attendances, the club's lack of 'soul')

Not sure if you've read the answer to dropping the Dons in the Supporters' Board minutes (4B) from February.

Just read it.

The members of the SB, from what I've heard, are all strongly pro/vocal keeping the name.

Not sure how big a sample of fans Neil Hart's "speaking to supporters" was for him to get "90% want to keep the name". Could have spoken to 10 fans.

To quote this part of the minutes in full:

"Club Name Change
TG asked whether the Board had considered dropping the Dons?
NH confirmed that there is no plan to drop it. The Boards view is that the fans do not want to drop it. He then asked for a show of hands of the SB on whether the Dons should be dropped. One member voted to drop it whilst all the others wanted to keep it.

OC asked if anyone had put a comment in on the crest survey that the Dons should be dropped.
NH confirmed some had mentioned the Dons but only to say that it should be kept as part of our name. He also commented that in talking to supporters he found that over 90% wanted to keep it therefore there is no need to consider a name change.

JS commented that in his view a lot of supporters feel that the crest alteration is the first step to a name change.
NH commented that the noise to drop the Dons is coming from other fans which is the main reason the voting has been protected otherwise there was a potential for the vote to be sabotaged. "

So in summary.
* The Board have no intention of dropping the Dons.
* Only one member of the Supporters Board felt that the Dons should be dropped.
* The comments section of the crest survey received zero comments about dropping the Dons BUT there were comments about keeping the name.
* NH has spoken to supporters about dropping the Dons and 90% have fed back that they wish to keep the name.
* NH's view is that the "noise" to drop the Dons is coming from people who do not support our club.

There you have your answer - there's no appetite from our new owners to drop the Dons.

I literally said I'd read it, my comments are fair. I've emailed Neil Hart for some clarity on that "90%" figure to find out how many supporters he spoke to. If it's ten it's meaningless. Doubt he's spoken to that many. The fact he's sought opinions shows the board do have an appetite for change, otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned it at all. Also, I've heard numerous times that most of the SB are extremely pro keeping it, so not a fair balance of opinion.

Anyway, let's not de-rail yet another thread. This has been done to death on here, I was just simply putting my unpopular opinion (for here) in a thread called unpopular opinions. Let's not debate it again, unless you want to PM me (happy to).

Maybe it is a fair balance of opinion? Put of 10 people, one wanted it dropped.... would it be a fair balance of opinion it it were the other way around?
I dont want to derail another thread as you said, but the bloke has absolutely no reason to target specific supporters to suit an argument, if there were 20 supporters there its likely its be the majority wanting to keep it whether you want to pretend the majority of fans want to change or not.

It'd be more instructive to have a poll of regular fans rather than a small group. A more representative sample would be season ticket holders, the more data the clearer the picture. I'm for dropping the dons part of the name (and have been since the very start), the only reason to keep it is out of respect to the fans who moved with their old club but I personally think it's holding the club back. I'm sick and tired of defending my support for the club from people who only know that one thing and treat it as gospel that Wimbledon were hard done by and it was all our fault. We inherited somebody else's mess.

I thought this was a ground share for a second

I actually think we should stop using “Milton Keynes” from our name…

… always think MK Dons sounds better and am proud that our city is one of the very few places in the world which can be written and recognised just be using 2 letters.

Where’s SG to suggest that we should drop the Dons and we should be called after the professors at the Open University?

My unpopular opinion is that we are a league 1/2 team in just about every aspect of the club except our stadium. We are fooling ourselves if we think we have some pre-ordained right to reaching the championship when we are no better the a Gillingham, a Colchester or a Burton. Half of our frustration is born from being sold a dream that barring one miraculous season we are incapable of fulfilling.
