Specials front man Terry Hall has passed away after a short illness at the absolutely stupidity young age of only 63.

What a shocker this dreadful news is to wake up to. I should imagine that everyone has their debut album, and if you don't then rectify that right now. It's a masterpiece obviously.

The Specials were one of those bands that always seemed to be there. Always playing in the background. Just one of those bands from your youth that you assumed everyone liked. It should go without saying that The Fun Boy Three weren't too shabby either. I loved Our Lips Are Sealed, thought it was outstanding. And of course there was also The Colourfield. He had the rarest of things in music, a unique voice. One that was both distinctive and impossible to copy

It's another passing that certainly focuses the mind of those, like me, in their sixties.

Oh my goodness, really sad.

As you say, Gers, their debut album was fantastic. More Specials was pretty good too.

RIP

RIP Terry

63 is no age - when I think about eagerly unwrapping that first album on Christmas day in 1979 it feels like days ago not decades

Sad news indeed

I just remembered. I saw The Specials in ooh.... late 79 early 80s.
Load of unpleasant people in the audience chanting racist stuff and the bassist - Harry? someone?? - whipped off his guitar, shouted "we don't need idiots/tw*ts/nazis - can't exactly recall - like you" and whacked this bloke right on the side of the head with it. Happened right in front of me.
