As no one has mentioned it, funky as fuck Betty Davis passed away this week. Most famous for being Mrs Miles Davis, I doubt she made a bad record. They are the dirtiest, funkiest things you’ve ever heard. And it goes without saying that the gal could sing. I love the sound of her stuff. The bass is utterly outstanding. I guess you could call it proto-funk. It’s great stuff.
Look at Miles before and after he met her. The influence she undoubtedly had on him goes without saying. Out with the pin sharp suits, in with the bug eyed shades and outrageous flares. He was 19 years older than her, but she changed him forever. And the fact that he of all people called her too young and too wild tells you all you need to know.
