It's all over Twitter that DJ Janis Long has passed away. Some friends of mine are friends of hers. One of them has confirmed it. Unbelievably sad news if it's true. Brilliant DJ, with a great taste in music. She's be sadly missed.

What? She was on some old show late last night. which showed her and her husband, really young, on Bullseye.

She was part of that watershed moment, when Radio 1 went from Smashie and Nicey, kiddy-fiddler DJs, to Peel acolytes who loved "proper" music.

RIP if this is true.

Awoken to this from my old band mate in Glasgow...

"I am hearing that the news regarding Janice may be a hoax. I really hope so. It was a jolt and I’m still reeling but to dwell on her influence was lovely and overdue. One of life’s folk heroes"

So there you go. What a bizarre thing this is. And as of this moment, we're still none the wiser either way. However. There's so many folk of my age saying that she's passed that I don't know what to make of it either way.

Bloody hell, I hope it’s not true.

Along with Peel, she was an important part of my youth.

Irrespective of whether I've used the wrong spelling of her name or not, her double act with Peel on TOTP was always entertaining. I remember her show on Radio 1 which was on just before Peel. She once played a record by Age Of Chance twice in a row simply because she liked it.

Rubbish this when folk of the same vintage as yourself die. Somewhat sharpens the focus.
