For all my artistic aspersions, loving Captain Beefheart, The Fall, Tom Waits and all that sort of stuff, I absolutely adore AC/DC.

A true powerhouse behind the band, who wrote most of their stuff. Went about his business quietly and without fuss. I'm getting Let There Be Rock out right now, and saluting him with a nice glass of red.

Not my thing. But 61 is no age to get dementia. And 64 is no age to die. Poor guy.

I just found this out this very night just before coming on here.

Sad news - although dementure is ghastly. I doubt he'd wanted to have lived - what can I say? - on and on as a very different person/pale shadow of himself in his youth.

Oh and IMHO one doesn't 'rest in peace'; you carry on rocking and being the same loony bast*ard in the next existence - all very spiritually natch. Hic. :ugeek:

He was actually suffering from it for years. I went to see them at Wembley in 2009. They were great. But what wasn't know at the time was that he was having to relearn the entire set every day. You wouldn't have known. Admittedly he wasn't the Young brother you focused on, and that was the entire point of him. He just stood at the back, hammering away, thus allowing Angus to do his stuff.

And reading his obituary this morning, it turns out that he was a real ruthless bastard when it came to the business side of the band.

I love 'em. They were a proper rock n' roll band. Not heavy metal, nor rock, nor any sub genre, rock n' roll.
