Music seems a very popular interest on here, so looking at something a bit different, what was the first record you bought or acquired.
My first 45 was Telstar by the Tornadoes given to me by my Nan, but the first record I purchased was Ride a White Swan by T Rex, can’t recall which LP was my first but I have a feeling it was something from the Beatles, Sgt Peppers or possibly Help.

I've always struggled with things like this, as my childhood memories are awful and vague at best.

I've since discovered it's probably because of having Aphantasia - possessing no minds eye - which means I can't visualise anything in my mind (or 'hear' anything either, such as being able to hear known songs or voices in my mind).

That often leads to poor childhood memories and autobiographical events, as it takes away a big part of remembering them by being able to 'see' them again over the years.

So, I can never remember the first... that I bought, read, listened to, etc.

My vague, earliest memories are of listening to some of one of my older brothers collection (the other hates all types of music!) - which was mostly stuff like OMD, ELO, Deacon Blue, Bruce Springsteen...

My earliest memories of actually buying music was in my teens in the 90's, which would have been Indie groups like Oasis, Pulp, Manics or US groups like REM or Counting Crows (and still Bruce Springsteen).

But which one I bought first I've no idea!

My first record Im pretty sure was Elvis Presley, possibly ‘In the Ghetto’ that I don’t know how I obtained. I played it on an ancient record player that was in a bright red case with a speaker built in and was absolutely knackered.

The first record I purchased for myself was ‘Now that’s what I call music 2’. I loved it then and love the joy it brought me then still to this day. I played it to death and suspect my parents might have eventually disposed of it as they must have been sick of it being on constantly.

:o I'm dreading answering this one............

Anyone who knows me will know that I'm not that musical.

My first record was actually purchased as a gift by my sister "Love grows (where my Rosemary goes)". It was more of a leg pull as I was at junior school at the time and a girl called Rosemary had a crush on me - I couldn't stand her!

I took it back to the shop and swapped it for "Two little boys". :o

The funny part was in the early 90's I ended up working closely with a former member of the group. He spat his coffee out when I told him the story. He did tell me that they were once in a recording studio and listened to the band recording next door. Their verdict was that the band would never get a number one and Edison Lighthouse were the better band.... I'm not sure who won the honour, Queen or Edison Lighthouse!

First thing I bought with my new found wealth of a weekly wage was a record player and a 45 record, which I played endlessly, driving my parents banonkers.

The record ? Tommy Steel's Little White Bull.
