I was at that one too!

(And most people do)

So was I! I always seem to remember their musical ambition far exceeding their equipment at the time. Mind you, I'd seen Public Enemy & De La Soul live around that time who really nailed it.

Despite my predilection for The Ramones I think I'd go for Rory Gallagher in the Kent University sports hall in '77.

Fantastic passionate set right from the off which was 'secret agent' followed by 'moonchild' including the acoustic gems (like 'out on the western plain') all on his own on a stool with a single spotlight on him half way through.

Classic shin kickin' ;) hard bluesy rock flawlessly played at very high speed with a band that were clearly having fun as well.

And it was a wet night in the week as I recall. He came and with his band gave it everything for well over two hours.

Some of the live stuff of his that's out there now is really good. I'll never forget that night. :D

James - 1992 at Alton Towers. Absolutely no question.

Rained like fuck, the roof of the stage blew off cancelling Gallianos set and PIL got drowned in 100s of pints of piss. James were epic. Only 30,000 people were there but I reckon more than 10 times that number claimed to be.
