Family outing to the Latitude festival last weekend
First time there so didn't know what to expect, but my goodness what an idyllic location. The lake is a beautiful centrepiece and the hilly wooded sections magnificent hideaways for the smaller stages and bars, all lit by various fairy world type illuminations - and the pink sheep do really exist
Some fantastic comedy with brilliant sets by Marcus Brigstocke, David O'Docherty and a live episode of QI, Littlest OFD kept happy with a Q&A from Mark Kermode interviewing Amy and Senna director Asif Kapadia - whose latest project is a film about our mate Maradona
Great nostalgic performances from the Charlatans and Belle and Sebastien, brilliant sets from home bankers (for us) the Vaccines and Wolf Alice, lots of good new stuff but special mention to Black Honey - thats how you smash a midday set as if you were headliners
Biggest discovery for me was Friday night headliner Solange. I didn't know much about her other than that she has a Galactico size sister, but will definitely be listening to more of her stuff. Haunting, sensitive, funky, beautiful jazzy set that had the whole family completely converted. Funniest bit was Liam Gallagher walking onto the stage during the Killers Saturday headline, talk about two countries separated by a common language. Too many good bits to call out entirely, but the closing Sunday highlight was a session by John Cooper Clarke - who finished up with "I wanna be yours" bringing the house down completely
Brilliant family friendly festival, loads to do and just about right in size - Mrs OFD hinted that she may even consider going there again, now that really is an unexpected result...
Dr Cooper Clarke is one of my heroes. I've seen him many, many times. Even on a shit night, he's fucking brilliant. Sounds like a great weekend.
