Not my type of music but KC had a fantastic voice. Genuinely wonderful.

Being a better drummer than Ringo isn't a ringing endorsement. He wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.

Joni Mitchell & Sandy Denny & Etta James and and and all pip her. But that isn't meant as a dig at her.

Saw Blondie at Hammersmith Odeon in 1977. At one point Debbie Harry stood at the front of the stage and a bank of spotlights came on behind her, not a lot left to the imagination.
First time I’d ever seen blokes being evicted from the stage area at the HO

In order to make comparisons meaningful we need categories, so :-

Female singers

A Classic - I'm not too knowledgable here so I'll say Callas, just because everyone does

B Blues and Soul - so much choice. But Etta James tops it for me.

C Country - Voice only: Patsy Cline. Voice & songwriting: Dolly P

D Ballad: no idea

E Jazz: Ella Fitzgerald just beats Billie Holiday

F Rock ( Pre Stones ): Not really many in this category. Although she's strictly blues, let's go Big Mama Thornton

G Rock ( Post Stones ): Joni (yes she's folk, but still...)

H Heavy ( Mostly all modern crap ): pointless category - all rubbish

Feel free to add any others.

Folk: Sandy Denny

A Classic... Do you mean an all time classic, or a classical singer?

B Blues and Soul... Etta James. Listen to 'At Last' if any further proof were needed.

C Country... Dolly. Honestly! It's Dolly. The end..

D Ballad... Amy. Break your heart that girl.

E Jazz. Cleo Lane. I used to work at The Stables. I've seen her sing at close quarters many time. The most powerful voice I've ever heard, male or female.

F Rock ( Pre Stones )... Dusty Springfield was going before The Stones. I'm voting for her.

G Rock ( Post Stones )... Janis. Think that's a pretty safe bet.

H Heavy ( Mostly all modern crap )... You got me there!
