Lots of talk, lots of opinions so I thought a poll could be interesting, you get 3 votes as I doubt anyone believes one thing is to blame and everything else blameless. Get voting...

I put down other as our style of play being too one dimensional and increasingly out dated. Russel Martin typified this and while other managers have tried to adapt, we haven't seemed to have the players to achieve the change.

Most of those things would have played some part in the decline. But I think the run of things towards the middle really stand out so I've gone for those: The training ground fiasco; Poor recruitment; The constant churn of players.

Such a depressingly long list of factors all deserving to be options. :(

As you've included previous coaches including as far back as Liam Manning(!) I assume you're asking about the general decline over the past few seasons rather than our specific league position now?

If it's general decline over few seasons it's a combination of Liam Sweeting, Pete Winkelman and poor recruitment.

If it's our league position now, then it's Liam Sweeting, poor recruitment and Scott Lindsey.

We've collectively been having an off day for 2 years.

Good news though, Matt Dennis gave Carlisle their first win in ages tonight.

You can trace it back to that awful summer window with Manning - Winkie tried to repeat the success of Darling, Twine, O'Hora etc on the cheap, and on doing so left Manning with a dud hand and undid all of the positives from the season before. Its been a perpetual clusterfuck since then.

That window has to be the worst we ever had. Had it been better, we may well still have Manning as manager and still be knocking around L1 playoffs or better.

But Manning couldn't get a tune out of the 12 duds we signed - no-one could.
