From a guilty pleasure film - Lakd Placid

'Sheriff Hank Keough: I... I... I never heard of a crocodile crossing an ocean.
Hector Cyr: Well, they conceal information like that in books.'

Wise quote:
"You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear." - The wisest of all, Sherlock Holmes.

Random Quote:
"And silence like a poultice comes to heal the blows of sound." Oliver Wendell Holmes (no relation of Sherlock.) You can see why I hate John Westwood.

Funny Quote:
Well, any by PG Wodehouse. I'll start with:
"He was a tubby little man who looked as if he had been poured into his clothes and had forgotten to say 'When.'"

"Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everybody gets busy on the proof." - J K Galbraith

"The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt." - Bertrand Russell

One of my favourite quotes has always been:-

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Very much one for Winkie, I'd have thought.

Incidentally the "Success is not final, failure is never fatal" quote attributed to Churchill (even though it is highly unlikely that he actually said it) at the end of the brilliant "The Darkest Hour" film is something Dons fans might wish to contemplate on, occasionally :)

“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

Roy Batty, Blade Runner

I'm a big fan of the Transcendentalist thinking of Emerson and Thoreau.
Some of my favourites of theirs:
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. - R.W. Emerson.
I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better - Thoreau.
I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude - Thoreau (BTW this doesn't prove popular on a Valentine's card - trust me!)

What's that I hear? Where's the Wodehouse quotes? Well, all right, just the one:
I'd always thought her half-baked, but now I think they didn't even put her in the oven.

“Darling, my attitude is ‘fuck it’; I’m doing everything with everyone.”

Freddie Mercury - 1979
