But did they do a full training session before the match as that apparently renders the result meaningless?

It doesn’t render the result meaningless, but of course it’ll have a significant impact if we did a full training session before the game and our opponents didn’t.

To me, that is at the detriment of morale/confidence which plays an equal role to fitness, so not a decision I can fully understand for the last pre-season game

Said it before, I'll ask it again:

Based on what?

Based on me watching three of the four games. We’re trying to play fewer passes before getting into a creative area. There’s much less forming triangles or pulling other players out of position, it’s much more about getting the ball into dangerous areas in fewer passes and accepting having less of the ball for much of the game. Didn’t see today’s game though so can’t comment on it specifically.

We definitely aren’t playing how we were last season at all. This is GA’s house style and it is how he has played at his previous clubs. We are not playing too much differently from his Salford side: https://footballbh.net/2020/03/18/salfo ... s-tactics/

Not playing the neater passing game like under Russ doesn't mean we're "direct"....

I'll be honest, I just don't care.

Not sure I've ever felt so jaded about a football season in July, but I can feel my interest waning away. Still too many terrible players from last season and last night sounded very familiar. No matter the opposition.

My mindset may still be a hangover from the incredible drop off we suffered last season, but equally it could be from how we went down after the position we found ourselves in at the end of March. I've still not come to terms with that I think.
Pretty much this. I'll still schlep along to the home games but, as of today, I'm not at all inspired. I've never felt like this before, even in previous bad times.
Well that's saved me writing what I think because you've both summed up my feelings perfectly.
+1
