I genuinely think he was quite good at that (at least, relative to other typical League One wingers). I don't know how he got passed them, and I'm not entirely convinced he did either, but I remember him having a decent success rate. Towards the end teams would typically double up on him to stop him which made space for everyone else.
Unfortunately, he was never going to be the type of player who could recognise that and thread an accurate ball into the space that made for someone else to exploit
