Having your in-laws staying for the weekend...
Going well is it?
Is it fuck.
I feel your pain. My friends and I were having a similar discussion only a few days ago. And there wasn't a single one of us whose parents were "involved" in our daily lives to the extent of our in-laws.
It seems it's our cross to bear.
Disconcerting moment #1
The current Mrs Gers and her mother go out shopping. I'm left with Mrs Gers father.
I pop off to the loo. Come back into the livingroom, he's not there, but the front door is wide open.
Now, I'm not panicking, yet! Find him in the front drive looking for the loo. Horrible thing dementia.
To talk to him you'd think that there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. Can hold a conversation about old films, talk about art, still has an opinion on the sectarian division in Glasgow. But he mistook my son for his cousin, and he's got it in his mind that he's permanently cold. Nothing we can do will convince him that the house is absolutely boiling. There's a heat haze in the kitchen. Folk are passing out for lack of water.
Honestly want someone to shoot me if I ever get it.
