And I wonder what Tory party you are on about. Because if you think that the current Conservative Party are liberal I'd hate to see what they'd be like if they were a bunch of basically racist right wing extremists.

They only have the mail, express, telegraph and usually the sun, unless Murdoch smells a loser.

I’m not voting conservative, other than that I really don’t know, I would consider voting Lib Dem if they could keep Labour in check with a coalition, I don’t trust Sir Starmer to run this country without somebody to kick him in the balls occasionally, just to let him know not to get carried away.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. Makes for very interesting reading (not being sarcastic - genuinely find it interesting getting your views).

I notice there are a few comments basically saying not Labour because Starmer couldn’t do the job. Would anyone be willing to elaborate on this? (For what is worth I’m not a fan either but I suspect my reasoning is different to many others, I’m a self confessed woke lefty socialist).

In answer to the question... no.

In regards to other points made on this thread. I've always voted, ever since I was 18. I'm 61 now. I vote in local elections right through to general elections. My father drummed it into me from an early age that you should always vote. It's a cliché, but folk have given their lives for that right.

Some context. I was a member of the Labour Party for years, I'm not now. I've always voted Labour ever since I could, apart from twice. Once I voted Lib Dem because I thought that they would go into collaboration with Labour and keep the Conservatives out of power. That worked out well! And I didn't vote for them last time simply because of Corbyn. My wife's Jewish, I couldn't vote for someone like that. That also worked out well!

Regarding voting I completely agree with you Gers and personally vote whenever I can.

In NI we use the STV system for our local elections and our Assembly election. For those that aren’t familiar this means we rank our candidates in order of preference and your vote moves to your next highest preference if your preferred candidate is eliminated. It’s a much better module in my personal opinion (although it makes election counts last forever).

IMO he's not offering any clear, cogent vision for the country. He doesn't seem to have any firm standout policies, let alone major political philosophies. He's basically David Cameron in a red tie. Add in some of the dross in ShadCab and it's just a depressingly beige future that lies ahead of us.

Basically, Starmer is going to get in by default for no other reason than his not being a Tory. That might be good enough for those of you who are more left-leaning, or for those of you who have genuine long-standing gripes with the Conservatives, but for me, and for what this country needs, it's nowhere near good enough in my opinion.

To play devil's advocate - because this is an interesting, sensible thread (at least for the time being!) - I'd love to read a concise answer to this question: what does a Keir Starmer Labour Party stand for? And I'd like to see an answer that doesn't just involve deflecting and bashing the Conservatives.

I can't even begin to express my utter utter contempt for the Conservatives.

For me, it's at a time for massive investment in green energy and technology, the tories are ripping up existing commitments, Starmer is so timid it would make a mouse blush and the Liberals are pretty vacant. I feel sorry for future generations when they look at our inaction.

I agree

I’d like a party to commit to new build properties having solar PV as standard, along with Heat Pumps which will be included from 2025.

We need to start acting now and stop pussyfooting around difficult decisions, use some of the ridiculous HS2 scrappage money and invest in green technology and scrap HS2 completely as well
