Has passed away at the ripe old age of 90.

An absolute childhood hero of mine back in the 60’s and 70’s, and possibly the most handsome Glaswegian. A giant of appointment telly in our house. The Man From Uncle (and which men of a certain age didn’t have the ‘Uncle’ gun!) The Invisible Man. The total head-fuck that was Sapphire & Steel. He was in one of the greatest films of all time in The Great Escape, and obviously loads and loads of other great stuff. I’ve never watched NCIS, but it would appear that he was much loved in that.

If you’ve never watched Sapphire & Steell then I strongly recommend that you do. You’ll find the entire thing on YouTube. Imagine this at seven o’clock on a Thursday night. Imagine your father sitting watching and constantly asking “What’s going on here? What’s this about?”. Outstanding telly.

Apparently left the UK for the States in the 60s because Britain had become "too left wing". But I won't hold that against him.

I dearly wish I still had my MFU oldsmobile, the one with the push button on the roof that made McCallum and Robert Vaugh lean out of their windows and shoot.

Always liked TMFU.
Ahead of its time.
I always liked his character (Illya Kuryakin) more than Vaughn's (Napoleon  Solo) who I thought was a bit wooden. But hey ho, they 'worked' as a duo.

I genuinely never knew that the old guy in NCIS was him. I always remember him as Ashley-Pitt in The Great Escape.

They don't make actors like David McCallum any more. Same with Michael Gambon - I'm not really into Harry Potter, but I thoroughly recommend watching him play John Harrison in Longitude. You know it's good because it's got Jeremy Irons in it.

I hope that was deliberate. ;)
