Men of a certain age, perhaps those in their 70’s, will have awoken to the sad news that anglo-french chanteuse and actor Jane Birkin has passed away.

Best known as the partner of old perv’ Serge Gainsbourg, and indeed most famous for their collaboration ‘Je T’Aime … Moi Non Plus’ (which I’ve just discovered was originally recorded by another of Gainsbourg’s lovers in Bridget Bardot, but which she refused to have released for fear of scandal), she had a long career post their relationship. In all honesty, the chanteuse is not my cup of tea, but as a preternaturally beautiful woman it’d be churlish to dismiss her as simply that. A beautiful woman who happened to hook up with an old pervert. There was much more to her than that.
