“Let the jury consider their verdict,” the King said, for about the twentieth time that day.
“No, no!” said the Queen. “Sentence first—verdict afterwards.”
“Stuff and nonsense!” said Alice loudly. “The idea of having the sentence first!”

I suppose it's swings and roundabouts

A few years back we invited Mark Lancaster to give the prizes at OFD Junior's summer football tournament, not only did he accept but was very generous with his time and spent a good couple of hours with us - I had a particularly good Dons related chat with him. Without any party political filter it was a very positive experience to have the local MP turn up and engage with the community, something I will always be grateful for - an example of how things should work

Maybe I'm just getting too long in the tooth but fast forward to now and I'm increasingly wearied by the nastiness and vitriol of the current era. So many current MPs and political figures across the spectrum are just plain horrible - seemingly without a care for what the electorate at large think. Of course there are are good people and that's what gives me hope, but having stayed unaffected for so long the last six months or so has started to get to me

I'm quite often drawn back to that old Scottish aphorism...

Don't vote, It'll only encourage them.

I've only contacted my MP twice in my entire life, I'm almost sixty.

The first time was the Cummings eyesight nonsense. My MP's office emailed back saying that as they couldn't be 100% certain that I was who I said I was, they wouldn't be addressing my concerns.

The second time, just a few weeks ago, was about 'party gate'. So far he's not bothered to reply.

That's how much they care. I'm not going to publicly name him, but we live in Stony. Easy to find out who it is that quite literally doesn't give a fuck.

Back in November, I wrote to Ben Everitt about his vote to support the Leadsom amendment to try and get that loathsome toad, Paterson, off the hook. To be fair, he did reply (although it took 16 days) and admitted that his initial response was wrong.

Like all MP's, ignore what they say and look up their voting record. It tells you all you need to know about them.

Unfortunately it is never as simple as looking at voting records. MPs are under a lot of pressure from the party whip to support the party policies and directions. There are many many examples of MPs across the ages flip flopping there voting patterns on certain issues to reflect the party leader’s (both the actual leader and chief whip) requests.

I love the idea of having a local MP who voted on every issue from the heart based of their own beliefs but it just isn’t the reality of Politics.

When I was an impressionable teenager, I saw a large graffito painted right across a bridge. It said:

"If voting changed anything they'd make it illegal"

Cynical... but funny.

Not that funny
The right wing are already trying that in parts of the USA, for those who might vote against them.
And voter id in UK?

Ken Livingstone's book (or one of them) had a similar title - I think it was '.....they would abolish it'
