As Bertie mentioned on the word game thread, some of the old games threads have gone the way of old flesh. I thought it was worth reviving the thread to post games based on the ones in Only Connect. Let's re-start with a wall:

Ford Kidney Vauxhall Outlaw
Kitchen Lamborghini Waterloo Millennium
Huston Rhodes Floyd Fosse
Hungerford Forman Puppeteer Hollywood

I can't work out a connection for the last four left over, but they're all surnames so I imagine there's a connection I can't see if my groups are split right...

Bridges in London: Waterloo, Millennium, Vauxhall, Hungerford.

Chefs: Hollywood, Rhodes, Floyd, Outlaw.

? : Ford, Fosse, Forman, Huston.

Are they boxers missing an E? I've seen ForEman and FordE, but cannot work out the others.

Hmmm - possibly two groups:

Harry Potter books - Philosopher's Stone, Half Blood Prince, Order of the Pheonix, Chamber of Secrets?
Drums - Bass, Kettle, Frame, Goblet?

I'm finding this tough! I've got one group but can't yet rule out the red herring. And have a possible second group. I'm posting my workings in case it helps someone else:

Harry Potter books:
Philosopher's Stone
Chamber of Secrets
Goblet of Fire
Order of the Phoenix
Half-Blood Prince

_______ Chip:
Blue chip
Kettle chip
Stone chip (red herring above?)
Side chip??? Really not sure of this one...

Right - not sure about this, but how about bells:

Blue bell, Kettle bell, Liberty Bell and Kristen Bell?

I'm thinking surnames (James, Hendry, Stephens...)? But probably time for a clue...

OK - I feel this might be off-beam somewhat but are they all English or British monarchs?

That's the one! :D

Of course James, Henry, Stephen and Victoria were the names of Monarchs. And are made by adding two letters to the end of Jam, Hen, Steph, Victor (the last two changes what sounds like a women's name into a King, and a man's name into a Queen).

Maybe the adding two letters part made it a bit too hard. But it was my first wall for ages and they were the only four Regnal names it really worked for that created proper words if you removed the last two letters so it seemed a good question. But maybe a bit too hard?

Thanks Bertie - great fun :D

No, I wouldn't say too hard as we collectively got there in the end, but it certainly meant jump-starting the brain cells!
