Is the 'niche' one the last words of Smiths songs?

I'll need help if it is as I'm only basing it on How Soon Is Now (or Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now) and This Charming Man? But I'm guessing / hoping some of the more trickier words for a 'word' one might work better for a song title connection?

Great spot!! I'm giving you that, even though you aren't sure on the other two. :D

Last word of the titles of the first four Smiths singles: Glove, Man, Make, Now
Hand in Glove
This Charming Man
What Difference Does It Make?
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now

Which leaves:

Quick, Keep, Dumber, Word

Is it change the first letter to make a car manufacturer? if it is, I cant work out what Dumber would be but Buick, Jeep, Ford could be the other three

Humber?
Well spotted, Magpie. I was nowhere near getting that!

Well done both. :D

I was hoping that the fact the sound of the changed words was different and didn't rhyme (well, for 3 of them) would make it tougher but you soon saw through that.

New wall...

Stand. Slap. Prior. Range.
Thraw. Club. Joy. Berton.
Chop. Life. Keel. Gear.
Vera. Cap. Briars. Match.

How about:

Can be followed by "stick": Slap. Joy. Chop. Match.

Anagrams of synonyms for violent emotion: Gear = rage. Thraw = wrath. Vera = rave. Range = anger.

Great work, Keyser. Both correct. :D
Gear was a red herring for two of the other groups, including '...stick', but you've avoided that.

Remaining clues:

Stand. Prior.
Club. Berton.
Keel. Life.
Cap. Briars.

Mispelt Richards:
Keel = Richard Kiel
Berton = Richard Burton
Prior = Richard Pryor
Briars = Richard Briers

Can be proceeded by "Night":
Stand. Club. Life. Cap.

That's it. Well solved.

The Only Connect terminology for the Richard's group would either be homophones (in which case Gear was also a red herring for it), or, as that's always a category that's problematic, then I also picked four clues that needed to just change one letter to make an actor.

The NYT Games app has a daily word wall which is basically the same as this (but often a little easier). I particularly enjoyed today's one:
Hinge. Spoil. Drill. Match.
Lock. Tinder. Handle. Bumble.
Grinder. Frame. Saw. Logs.
Fluff. Kindling. Blow. Router.
