Too p*ssed to rank...RANK...it's not a Dead Kennedy's (sorta) ref
The Naked Gun - The smell of fear (Loved all of the three actually)
Fellowship of The Ring (ditto)
(Original) Assault on precinct 13 (fantastic taught series of set pieces and the soundtrack....)
Platoon (Visceral)
Full metal Jacket (Cinematic brilliance and a super soundtrack)
The exorcist (I was 16 when I saw it. The first time I ever sensed fear in a group of people, absolutely palpable in the cinema - only other time was silence of the lambs in the first scene with HL)
Pulp fiction - surely we all came out of the cinema going 'that scene where she/he/they did so and so that was actually before...' didn't we?
Spinal tap - (The only comment I can make is...) goes up to 11.
Meet the Fockers - De Niro et al have nothing to prove and there is some cracking dialogue
The Good, the bad and the ugly -about 3 hours and you never get bored.
Catch 22 - excellent film of a brilliant book. (not the TV remake) I never though they could carry it off.
Apocalypse Now - a bit long (?) but awesome scenes (oeping 5 minutes to The Doors) and CHARLIE DON'T SURF (which of course
inspired the Clash)
Life of Brian - what have the romans ever done etc. Hilarious. (Could just as easily have put 'Holy Grail')
Alien - straightforward 'who's gonna go next'? But very claustrophobic and well done. That scene with the blips on the screen when they suddenly realise Dallas is the one moving towards the alien not the other way round.....
The Godfather - never tire of watching it - the others are pretty darn good too
Whatever happened to Baby Jane - saw it on TV when I was very young and was desperately upset at how Bette Davies treated her sister - and killed the parrot. Took my parents ages to settle me down and ages/years later to appreciate the ending as I didn't want to watch it again.
Star Wars - I was really impressed with it in 77 and still am.
The Damned United - brilliant performance by Sheen (also Spall). My kids had no idea who Clough/Taylor/Revie were but could 'get' right away what the issues were.
The Green Mile - brilliant (and heartbreaking seeing what happens in the end) performances of an excellent book.
Toy Story (any of them really) - very clever. The 'bits at the end' were very well done. Surprising how so many didn't see/hear them first time round.
