Other than MK Dons, I know nothing about the city. What is Oldbrook like? Looking to purchase our first house and the area is within walking distance to CentreMK and CMK station.

Just checking this area isn't known as the dodgy part of the city?

Hard to say. Like. Without offending people. Because thinking an area is shit to some is saying the people who live there are all shit. We’ve had this discussion on a forum some years ago and everyone got on the defensive.

I personally like it but there some shit streets. But no worse than anywhere else. Done some work on a garden there a few years back and got threatened by a lady whilst walking to the local Tesco express because I was smoking. But it’s not the worst place. I know people who live there and think it’s okay.

It’s a good location. Smack bang in the middle of MK. assessable to everywhere easily.

All the roads are named after cricketers.

The south west corner - around The Boundary - is quite nice.

Otherwise avoid, avoid, avoid.

No need to Boycott it because of that.....
Some parts are better than others. A rule of thumb is to visit where you are planning to move to (late) on a Fri/Sat night.

To state the bleedin' obvious.... if the place is full of boy racers and/or hideously loud music and/or people pulling up in a car 'nipping inside a house for two minutes and leaving again' I'd avoid it.

Obligatory disclaimer -- don't want to offend anyone, this is just my opinion; I've never lived there.

From what I've heard, Oldbrook has fairly nice houses and is in a good location, but the people there bring it down significantly, many of whom can be rather council. Others have mentioned being threatened as well as the presence of boy racers, which isn't hard to believe based on its reputation. Even though the allure of a central location can be strong, the estates around the city centre tend to be shitholes (I live in one), so I would say if you value not living with a bunch of chavs, it's probably best to steer clear of the Milton Keynes city centre, besides a few exceptions.

Good post. Some people have not no balls when it comes to that sort of thing.

Haven't lived in MK for 6 years, but from what I remember, it's not the best. Not the worst estate in MK, but I wouldn't probably choose to live there. There are a lot of similar estates. Saying that, I've only lived in Kents Hill, Tattenhoe, Emerson Valley and at The Hub in CMK so my experience of anywhere else is just visiting mates or passing through.

Are Fishermead and Netherfield still shit?

That pub in Netherfield, not sure if it's still there, but fuck me it's a scary place.
