Not your usual accurate self, Filthy....think about it. I am a number of years off 50, but The Smiths were plum in my secondary school years ! Given that their heyday was mid-1980s, that means their chief fan-base cohort will be folk in their 40s, not their 50s.

I saw them in one of their very early gigs in Sept 1983 at Sheffield University. They were shit then too.
