Good day out: The second day of a test match at Lords. Magnificent venue (shit, tight seats but that's the same in most historic venues). On the second day you usually get to see the end of one innings and the start of another. Top quality players. A few brews with your mates. Then into town for a few more brews after. Perfect. I've been doing this since 1982. The only weird bit is cheering on the sons of players I cheered on a generation ago. Tempus fugit... |

The atmosphere around the ground before start of play, the expectation, is wonderful. |

I used to take a random day off work, usually in November for some unknown reason, and just wander around London doing nothing. On my own. Do the gallery thing, The West End, Covent Garden, Soho. Have a couple of pints. It was a great way to get a sense of perspective. Haven't been able to do it for a couple of years as having bits of me amputated means that walking long distances results in me being a guest of the health service. But I do miss it. |

As an apprentice many moons ago at a large engineering company in Bedford we had a large and very good social club which organised many events. We went to boxing, football and cricket, they used to fill two or three coaches for most events but the cricket was the best day out, plenty veno if you get my drift. |

On a nice day, Stowe gardens (just up the road) is rather pleasant. (May be restricted now winter's on it's way so could be wise to check.) Capability Brown was one of the contributors to the design. They have 'A Path of Vice'.......

London on foot is awesome. Back in the days when everywhere closed on Sundays, my good lady and I used to spend the occasional Sunday just walking around all those places and the parks. Very few people about and parking was a doddle. Even parked in the Mall sometimes. Try that today and you'll lose your car pronto. |
