On a similar note, given your love of celebrity footballers, have you got your Cristiano Ronaldo Six-Pad yet?

When Chris Froome does a particularly good pedal, do you stand, arms akimbo, with your top off?

I'm not a huge fan of Froome. Although if I was at the Tour, on the piss and Tom Dumoulin was winning, then yes, i probably would. Although that isn't exactly unusual for cycling.

No one, except you and weird Sandy, know who that is.

He's got a good chance of winning the Tour so you might have in a couple of weeks. :D

It's not a proper sport, it's a fucking nuisance. Which costs this country millions in held-up traffic each and every day. That guy you've heard about that rolls his window down shouting Ladybit at each and every cyclist, that's me.

I know. I don't care.

I don’t “get” cycling but I get why people like it.

Since seeing Adam every single week in 2012/13 cycle here there and everywhere I realised the lengths people go through during a ride. I read a bit of Dans book (I still few a tad ashamed not all the way through) and understood why the emotions and feelings would be there after completing a long trek. And not just that, I imagine it’s pretty enjoyable to be fit, feeling fresh air on your face and seein new things.

In the past 2 years I’ve been working nights. Ive struggled at times to pull my life together, couldn’t get my eating patterns right, and was so tired from work I put on a stone or 2, and yet Dan has lost it. Every other day I see pictures from a few years ago at how much better I looked and feel upset. And sometimes I wish I could have a hobby like Dans. But it doesn’t interest me. Not because I’m lazy. It just never has interested me.

When I met Dan he was not too much older than I am now. Hated his body. Moaned all the time, but didn’t do much. In a few years he has found a hobby. Beating his records. Got fit. Cycling everywhere and told me some stories even I am proud of him for. And I think he’s a twat.

Football, as much as I do and always will love it, can run the risk of being “samey” over time. Once you’ve done the same grounds several times and been away with the same people many many times it can dull itself. But we keep goin for the moments we are scared to miss. And to see friends. And to support our team and towns.

I don’t get cycling but if it’s made someone enjoy their life a bit more who are we to judge? Especially if he doesn’t have to watch us at home to Morecambe.
