Seems like an odd move, unless there is an agreement for him to join Brighton after a year? Both clubs have the same owner.

Edit: Clearly not, he's signed a 3 year contract with an option for a further year.

To a second tier Belgium club. Strange move, I guess they have some cash and a plan for the next few years.

EDIT: They have just been promoted.

Seem like quite an ambitious club. Just won promotion to the top division and have signed english players before.

Christian Burgess, ex Portsmouth and one of the best centre backs in league 1 at the time moved there last season.

Our very own Charlie Brown also had a loan stint there.

Would've been nice to keep Matty but not a huge loss, I trust Martin and the recruitment to find a replacement as they have done with other players in the past.

Good luck to him, seems like an exciting move. He'll get to play top-flight football and progress to Brighton if it goes well.

It's just a shame that we haven't got a fee for him (I suspect the compensation will be a pittance as he hasn't actually been with us very long).

Time for Harvie to step up.

Though he's a loss he's certainly not irreplaceable. This is the most confident and comfortable I've ever been regarding our recruitment team so I'm sure the club have been aware that this was always likely and have been planning for it for a while.

Laird, Agard, Mason, Sorinola, Houghton, Nicholls and Grigg departing. Bit of a disappointment we've not had them replaced yet.

I can't help but wonder if this move is a way for Brighton to get around paying more in compensation for young homegrown players. Nothing stopping Royale Union Saint-Gilloise sending Sorinola to Brighton for an 'undisclosed fee' once he is deemed ready. There were rumours linking Sorinola with Leeds and West Ham and a few linking him to the old firm clubs just yesterday. I don't believe for a second moving to Belgium was the more attractive option than any of those clubs.

I trust the club's recruitment team to find a suitable replacement, but would just have liked to get a fair price for Sorinola, especially considering all the faith Russ put in him this time last year when he was potentially out of contract and looking at the football wilderness.

There will be a set fee for him as he’s moving abroad. I think it’s in the region of 400k
