Or a cheap addition with good experience to fill a gap when your strikers are injured or suspended and can offer something different, not just goals

I agree with that point, someone can be useful up front without scoring many goals, but I couldn’t see what he offered instead. He wasn’t much of a target man like Ibehre and Revell, not physical enough to knock defenders about like Drewe did, and not particularly good on the ball.

He did run around a lot though, so perhaps that’s it, dragging defenders out of position.

He didn’t offer nothing imo he just wasn’t a Championship striker. I think he’s a good squad player at this level, notyour main guy but someone who can come in when you have injuries or suspensions for a game or two and put a shift in. Maybe grab a goal or an assist. He was nifty with his runs and read the game well just didn’t hold it up or have a great finish. If you have the luxury of a striker you can bench who scores goals then he wouldn’t be at a club sitting on the bench.

Just like Cruyff

A better football player than a football theorist. Like most great players.

Great players don't have to think - they do.

No, he was great at both.

Barcelona wouldn’t be what it is today without him.

Simon Church retires on medical advice

You could never fault his effort but never praise his strike rate.

The doctor confirmed that he was impotent in front of the goal.
