SOTV Speaking of the Villa (a cleaner SOTV), I think they're a good example of a board showing faith in the right manager. They started this season slowly and a few neutrals I know were saying he may, and should, be sacked. But I just couldn't see it: he's a bloody good manager at championship level, and he had clearly assembled a very good squad that was just taking time to gel. It was obvious that given time they would start to deliver. But credit to the Villa board because, in this era of impatience, they might so easily have shown incredible short-sightedness and sacked him after a slow start. Where would Villa be now if they had made a silly decision like that and sacked a bloody good manager for no reason? Oh, that's right, battling relegation with Steve Cotterill in charge. Absolutely - fully agreed, pulling down the roof on your own head is something that happens now and again in B9 with regularity, no surprise nor shock there, sort of old ground really Whilst not sacking Mr Bruce might be viewed as a cause for high fives and back slaps in the Villa board room, he certainly isn't a claret and blue messiah, he's actually just the old enemy's ex before something better comes along - however much they try and pretend he's The Man now The Old Enemy's Ex - how many Villa boards would have done that in the past? |
