Over the years there has always been people who voice that they want us to see this as just another fixture

I.e. we have AFC and Mansfield this week......it is far better for us to take the 3 points from Mansfield than AFC in terms of promotion ...therefore 3 points from Mansfield trumps beating AFC at their place

However......

SHOULD we want to downplay it or should be embrace it?

Sporting fun includes the excitement of a build up, rivalries and pretend hatred (or real hatred!).....do we really want to downplay it or should we embrace it as an exciting 'special' fixture while we have it at least

I've been to a few of these fixtures (all at home) and have always found the extra bit of spice fun.....though I don't like it boiling over into violence (hence why I won't be bringing my kids to Plough Lane for that fixture anytime soon)

Thoughts?

If only 3 points available from the next two games would you take it on Saturday or Mansfield ?

(I'd rather not open up a discussion around history of the clubs just talking about the here and now and forwards)

Saturday. No exceptions. We play Mansfield home soon anyway.

It fucking matters. Don't downplay it, if you do you're a loser.

I would rather not have to play them at all, but when we do, we must not lose.

It's a game of football. Everyone should be able to enjoy a good day out.

Well then Im a loser. I want to win that game no more or less than any other. 1 bang average L2 side playing another currently slightly better than bang average L2 side. Thats it for me.

Seeing as how we are likely to lose at Mansfield's cabbage patch, lets get our 3 points tomorrow please.

Like it or not, we need eachother. It energies both sets of supporters.
This game matters to all of us. They might want to pretend to take the moral high ground and claim the game is an irrelevance but they'd love, more than anything, to beat us.

Looking at the bigger picture, I'd rather go up that win tomorrow but we all really want both to happen.

Agree.
In a parallel universe where there fans are pretty decent (It's true I've been there) it isn't a big deal although obviously I still want to win.
In this universe, with their constant vitriolic lies then I suppose it is a big deal that we win.

I like the fact that we have a genuine rivalry, but I wish it could just be that. A proper, fierce footballing rivalry. There's something special about this game, like it or not. I just wish we didn't have to have all of the silliness surrounding it. That being said, most of the silliness comes from their fans being idiots. I've said it before and I'll say it again - they simply can't be trusted.

But yes, I really hope we beat them tomorrow. It does mean more than any other match.
