The APL Prediction League & PreviewFleetwood
If you lived in the Fleetwood area and were just an ordinary football fan, who watched the occasional game, and you were at a bit of a loose end on Saturday, I would suggest the best thing you could do was drive out of the town and get on the M6 and just keep driving, as these winless giants collide.

At the time of writing Fleetwood have lost 7 consecutive games and the Dons have lost 6, and looking at the local Fleetwood rag online, there are striking similarities between the teams, and I don’t just mean the ability to keep losing. Defensive frailties, where every mistake is costing them goals, overplaying the ball, slow and deliberate, creating few chances, and a lack lustre attack........sound a familiar story?

Fleetwood didn’t have a bad start to the season, the early few games saw them in the playoff zone, former Dons loanee Devante Cole was popping a few into the net, and they eventually settled mid table or better, and then crash, and they have been dropping like a stone ever since.

Then Devante Cole went to Wigan Athletic in the January Transfer Window and the goals dried up, and after Fleetwood’s 3-0 loss to Doncaster at the weekend our good friend Uwe Rosler was shown the door.

Anyway......if the mood takes you, it’s a good day out obviously with Blackpool just a handful of miles away, we have a good record against Fleetwood of PLAYED 5, WON 4, but it’s a bloody long drive home if we lose.... fingers crossed.

Enough of the chatter, lets look at what matters.

FLEETWOOD THE STORY SO FAR
Fleetwood Town currently sit in 20th place in the League table with a record of PLAYED 32, WON 10, DRAWN 6, LOST 16, GF 43 & GA 53, with 36 POINTS to their name.

Current Form at a Glance LLLLLL

Their League HOME results in chronological order are as follows;

Fleetwood 2 Rotherham 0
Fleetwood 2 KFC Kingston 0
Fleetwood 2 Oldham 2
Fleetwood 3 Bury 2
Fleetwood 2 Southend 4
Fleetwood 1 Charlton 3
Fleetwood 2 Rochdale 2
Fleetwood 2 Oxford 0
Fleetwood 0 Doncaster 0
Fleetwood 0 Blackpool 0
Fleetwood 2 Peterborough 3
Fleetwood 0 Gillingham 2
Fleetwood 1 Bradford 2
Fleetwood 1 Blackburn 2
Fleetwood 2 Scunthorpe 3
Fleetwood v Portsmouth (Tuesday)

That’s a HOME record of PLAYED 15, WON 4, DRAWN 4, LOST 7, GF 22 & GA 25.

THE MANAGER
All the best intentions, I write my usual bit about the oppo manager, and then bang he’s gone after 7 straight defeats for Fleetwood, poor old Uwe Rosler, I guess our paths will cross again sometime in the future.

At present Barry Nicholson the Development Coach & David Lucas the Goalkeeping Coach have taken charge, but the search is on for a new Number 1 and may well be in place for this game.

THE STADIUM
Just over a 400-mile round trip to the 5,311 Highbury Stadium (Sat Nav FY7 6TX), and nearly half of the capacity is made up by terrace standing.

Away fans are mostly housed in the Percy Ronson terrace at one end of the stadium, where 831 fans can be accommodated. This terrace which was opened in 2007, is covered, free from supporting pillars and affords a good view of the playing action.

The Club have recently improved the facilities in this area with a new snack bar and toilet block. The terrace capacity also includes an open flat standing area on the Highbury Stand side. The official capacities are 621 for the Percy Ronson Terrace and 210 for the Highbury side standing area.

There is an away fans ticket office and programme booth situated outside the visiting supporters entrance.

Visiting supporters are also allocated 300 seats in the Parkside Stand and this can be increased if required. The facilities in this stand are far better than the terrace with alcoholic drinks available to purchase and there are large screens on the concourse showing Sky Sports.

There are plenty of pubs in Fleetwood with the Wetherspoons Thomas Drummond being the most popular and Jim's Sports Bar at the ground, which admits away fans. The facilities in this bar are excellent but get there early as it is bound to be very popular on match days. It is located at the back of the Memorial Stand and can be accessed from the park pathway that runs along that side of the ground. It is open from 12 noon on Saturdays and shows BT and Sky Sports on many televisions. The Highbury Club which is located adjacent to the away turnstiles does not allow in visiting supporters.

There is no station at Fleetwood, so Blackpool North would probably be your best option, it’s about 7 miles from the ground, so I suggest you walk down to the promenade and catch a tram for the final leg of the journey, it takes about 30 minutes, alight at Stanley Road which is about 200 yards from the stadium.

Parking for away fans is street parking, but there is usually plenty available, most home fans walk, bus or tram, so it should be a doddle to find some space.

FORMER MANAGERS
Uwe Rosler, Micky Mellon, Steven Presley and Graham Alexander.

FORMER PLAYERS
Frank Swift the England goalkeeper who died in the Munich Air Disaster, Jamie Vardy, Adrian Alston who captained Australia in the 1974 World Cup, and Peter Ollerton who also played for Australia at the same World Cup, Devante Cole, also Adam Chicksen and Tom Hitchcock had spells here on loan.

FLEETWOOD MASCOT
Captain Cod.

FAMOUS FANS
Baz the Bastard........I kid you not, look out for him.

OH NO....NOT YOU AGAIN
Well it was going to be Devante Cole, but he’s left the sinking ship and gone to Wigan Athletic.

SHOOTERS BOOTS
Top scorer is Devante Cole scoring 12 goals in all comps in 34 games, but now at Wigan Athletic.

YOU’VE GOT NO HISTORY
Fleetwood were formed in 1907 and this is the third incarnation of the club. The club first played in the Football League in the 2012/13 season after winning the Football Conference the year before.

Fleetwood were promoted into League 1 after winning the League 2 Playoff Final beating Burton Albion 1-0, their 6th promotion in 10 seasons.

The current club was re-established in 1997 and formerly played in the Conference North, Lancashire Combination, the Northern Premier League, the Cheshire League and the North West Counties League.

The club first made all its players full-time professionals in the 2010/11 season, although this resulted in them having to off load a number of player’s. In that season they reached the play- off semi-finals losing 8-1 on aggregate to a pub team from Kingston, but still set a then new attendance record for the home leg of 4,112.

The grounds current capacity stands at 5,311 with 2,627 seated; it is the 112th largest stadium by capacity in England and the smallest in League 1.

The highest transfer money received was £1m for Jamie Vardy to Leicester City, potentially rising to £1.7m, at the time it was a record non-league sale.

In the year of our formation 2004 Fleetwood’s average home attendance was just 206 and has risen every year to the current 3,801.
