My youngest (16) and his friends wan to do Stockport away as their first solo away game. Never been myself so can anyone give me an idea if it’s a relatively simple and safe experience?

I would rather they do FGR but the journey to Stockport seems a lot easier.

Cheers

It’s pretty much right next to the station so very easy.

We haven’t been there for a long time, but it was definitely a bit moody the day we secured promotion there in 2008. Dancing in the streets after probably didn’t help! I know I went one other time a year or two later though struggling to remember anything significant happening.

Basically as Dons fans, it’s always possible you’ll get a bit of verbals anywhere. It’s character building

Thanks Camden. He’s been to a good few aways but always with me, I don’t think the friends have though. My eldest has travelled all over but he’s a bit more streetwise, the youngest is a bit more naive so I am sceptical about this one.

If they’re getting the train up from MKC there’ll be loads arriving from early afternoon onwards, so they’ll be with plenty of others and (I’m guessing ;) ) they won’t be looking for a pre-match pint so they’ll be straight to the ground. Shouldn’t really be a problem, I’d say.

Thanks for all that. I want to encourage him as hes always been a bit less committed than his brother and the friends have regularly started going to home games after never really going much before. Its the only way to grow the fanbase and while adding 3 to the fanbase seems laughable, it has to start somewhere.

Based on what you have said, actually Stockport might be a good game for their first solo away, particularly being next to the station.

Cheers for taking the time to respond.

I went to Stockport on my own when I was about 12 or 13. Mind you that was 70 years ago, so not much of a guide as to what it's like now. ( We lost 4-0 )

He could always use the official away travel run by the MKDSA , it’s safe and fans are dropped outside the away turnstiles.

I did mention that to him but apparently, thats would be 'Dead', which I presume is a bad thing! Also, he will be playing football in the morning and the the train leaves 30 minutes later which makes it just possible to catch
