Too slow

He's been too slow for about a decade but has still played. He's our best passing CB IMO and who knows what happens if our LWB or LCB get injured

How long do you think Lewington has left as a squad player? (Genuine question)

So this could be Lewington's last season maybe ?
Maybe his last game will be Wembley or auto promotion ? - either way I'll be there. #Legend

Depends on whether he is prepared to keep training for the chance of an occasional game.

Depends on his fitness. If he can recover from this injury, I can also see him being around next season. Maybe as a bit part player whilst doing his coaching badges but I'd still rather than play Lewie than someone like Smith (who I like but just feel Lewie is still better). When Lewie came back last season, he was still one of our best CBs.

He clearly doesn't want to me a manager but surely he'll join the coaching team or take another position within the club. You don't stay as long as he has and not stay on in some capacity after he finishes playing.

Very key point this. He returned from injury and then disappeared again straight after. I don't think we'll see him back to be honest.

At 39 years old, I suspect his body has finally given up on the demands of a pro footballer.

I've just had the same injury (probably less severe) and am a few years older than Lewie. Took a while to get back fit again but now I'm back to normal. He's obviously a fit bloke and has had a very good injury record over the years. I still believe he'll be back playing and have shaken off that injury after Xmas.

I hope he returns even for one last hoorah and a proper send off with promotion! And that way he can end his career on his terms rather than it being cut short, pardon the irony.
