How much has that changed over the years?

A lot. Go back a decade (The Robbo Glory Years (c) Alby ;) *) and it’s pretty much double what we used to take away on average across a season.

Simple reason is that all those kids who once got free tickets are actually the core of our away support. Who’d a thunk it, eh? The signs were there during the promotion tilt under Manning with five consecutive 1,000+ followings, which was unthinkable even a few years before.

What’s slightly countering the numbers is that there’s plenty who were away regulars you never see except once in a blue moon, even at home games. It’ll be interesting to see if they ever return regularly, but that’s no different to many clubs. Active football support is cyclical for the vast majority, at almost every club. People dip in and out as circumstances and commitments change.

*-only pulling your chain. I’m all-in on Robbo too, but am happy for another few months of our fans suffering and getting what they asked for when they kept screaming about fannying around at the back and, trying to walk it into the net not shooting enough.

Whilst I was never a regular except under Manning (work, Uni, travelling etc. stopping me), I was pretty much doing 3-8 away games every season since 2004. Lots of faces from that early days I no longer see.

It has been impressive seeing the numbers grow though

I took a mate to Wrexham (formerly of this parish as it goes) who barely recognised anyone having not attended an away game for about ten years

Did you see the state of their fans at the winner takes all match......My Willy pondered for several moments and said politely "they looked a tad unhealthy."
