A year ago we were all on here speculating about Manning leaving to go to a Championship club. The overwhelming feeling we had at that moment was, "it'd be a shame, but I'm sure we'll find the right replacement. Sweeting's dealt with this before." How can we lose all confidence in a year?

That's not to say he's perfect and he's not made mistakes. He has. We all know that and I'm sure he will accept that, but he HAS made a difference in the past. People are very quick to remember the mistakes, but forget the successes. Getting Jackson in turned out to be a mistake. Signing a load of inexperienced kids in the summer turned out to be a massive mistake. But let's not forget him signing Twine, Parrott, Darling and the rest.

I see you all asking - Why should Sweeting stay? What does he even do? Well, I point you to August 2021. Russell Martin, the man who we'd pinned our hopes and dreams on, runs off to Wales at the last minute. In fact, it was later than that. The season had actually started! A lot of clubs would have had a stinking season after having something like that happen. We didn't. He finds a bloke that literally nobody has heard of and it turns out to be a stroke of genius. That's not a coincidence, that's proper planning. That's a proper structure. That's how you get success. Thats' why you have a sporting director. And that's why you don't sack them at the first opportunity.

Maybe goes to show that Martin was influential in getting players in.

Sweeting took the plaudits at the end of last season when we were flying, after a failed season, surely he now has to take the heat.

Personally for me, he needs to go. The two windows were a disaster, and whilst two people lost their jobs under his tenure, he should be held accountable.

The January window wasn’t a disaster.

You may be right about Martin attracting players, but at this moment we need someone to attract a manager. And not just any manager, the right one.

The summer window was a shambles, there's no arguing with that. But I wouldn't be so harsh on January. Ultimately, it wasn't enough to dig us out of the massive hole we'd dug ourselves into, but I thought the majority of our January signings made an impact.

Like I said before, he shouldn't be free from criticism. He has got things wrong. But I'm just not sure getting rid is the answer.

But then you are advocating sacking the Director of football everytime it gets so bad you need to sack the manager which is against the point of having one. If we went down that route there is no point having a Director of football.

I agree he should be held accountable, but unless we have a Sporting Director/DoF ready to replace him then it would be foolish to sack him at this point given we don't have a head coach and need a load of new players.

Honest question, what have Plymouth done over the last two seasons to end up Champions?

And what did they learn between missing out last year and going up this year ? :?:

That's all well and good what you're all saying about Sweeting. We're in League fucking 2.

We'll be in the national league if you leave it up to Pete to choose the new manager

This time next I firmly believe we'll be a non-league team. We're fucked. And if you think I'm being over dramatic, just look at the clubs that are already there. Massive clubs that we used to play regularly in L1. Two of whom were Championship sides not that long ago. We're well and truly fucked.

I’d hate to know what you think Morecambe are if that’s your stance on us, Gers…
