Need to forget this love-in with trying to unearth the next lower league guardiola. We need to stop trying to unearth a future gem as they will be poached anyway before we get a return on investment. We need to go towards proper proven experience at whatever level we happen to be playing at.

We just need to get through the leagues trading up for managerial experience and ability along the way.

No more untried untested managers. We need know how, respected figure and experience getting promotion.

Respectfully, I disagree. Some of our best managers have been untried and untested. Russ was a great example of that and helped generate the club a fortune with the way he could persuade talented players to join, play to their strengths with the brand of football and then move them on for decent money. That's the sort of manager we need IMO.

No experienced manager is going to come here and be told by some bloke with an ipad and a sheet full of stats who he can sign. they'll want their own staff and their own players

Martin had his own style of signings (including a few old mates that didn’t fit the transfer model on paper). As did Manning (lots of West Ham links). Why do people think that these guys just get given players and told to get on with it?

I don’t know for certain but it’s surely got to be a collaboration. The head coaches will explain what they need, Sweeting finds a list, Martin chooses his favourites and then Sweeting negotiates with clubs/players.

The process in itself is this the only difference is if sweeting says no the coach can't argue with it. Least that's how I understand it. Now you would like to think that he would have tried to negotiate for what manning wanted and not just flatly refuse but who knows. We quite clearly didn't get our targets but I guess manning and Jackson trust him the poor deluded fools

Personally I would keep both Jackson and Sweeting. We need experience … and these two have just gained a huge dollop of it.

The latter is a huge dollop of something I can safely say that

But I suppose even a baby eventually learns not to 'poo his pants'. Perhaps they can.
PERHAPS - with appropriate potty training. :D

Bump.

Per the OP, I would like to see someone with some proper connections and gravitas this time. If our realisation is correct that Martin had more influence on the class of 21/22 than we wish to acknowledge, then I'd like to see some learning from that and have real talent coming through the door once again.

Sounds simple I know. But Sweeting must have a list up his sleeve of just the sort of coach we need now.
