Hiring an inexperienced manager in his first job in a relegation battle is quite a big one

Worked with Russ though

Only because the season got stopped

Under Russ we lost 7 out of 19, 6 of those were to promotion/play off chasing teams.
We stayed up on points per game which was 1.06. Under Tisdale it was 0.8. Under Russ it was 1.26.
This myth that we stayed up due to the season ending is utter garbage.

Its not a myth, its an opinion. No-one can know what would have happened if the season had carried on. Maybe Russ would have kept us up, maybe not. But neither view is wrong. The PPG up to that point isn't proof of anything.

BCS claimed we only stayed up because of the season ending. That isn't necessarily true, it may have helped, it may not have done, we don't know.
I claimed we stayed up after hiring Russ. That is true.

Tranmere were starting to pick up points. It would have been either us or AFC that they overtook.

BCS’ claim is fair, because looking at the final games before lockdown it was a serious concern that we would be caught.

Of course we could have. BCS claimed we stayed up because of that, we don't know that for a fact

Tranmere's 3 wins came against bottom half teams, their final 5 games were against play off chasing sides. They also had games against ourselves and AFC which could have left them even further behind? We don't know

What we do know is we brought in an inexperienced manager who improved our results, including getting results against strong teams and that improvement meant we stayed in the division - despite the questionable conclusion. We also then improved again the next year, and then built a squad that also got promoted.

I can very much envisage many of our fans making comparisons to the failed Micciche appointment but ignoring or disregarding the successful Russ appointment

Im already excited for the new season. Lots of new grounds to visit, regardless of the division it will be nice to have a bit of a reset and get back to winning ways in hopefully a division more suited to our young players current level and hopefully if we retain them it will allow them to develop more at their current ability level and grow in a winning team. A nice reset is needed, a promotion push will galvanise the club again more than another dissapointing season in league one as we try to rebuild this side which takes time on a budget.
